Time to get deep: Reflections on two types of love

Today I experienced an internet outage that lasted most of my normal workday here at home. Being a blogger, timing your posts and the ability to respond to your readers is crucial. It worked for about 25 minutes smack dab in the middle of the day and then promptly cut out again. It turns out that this was a blessing, as it allowed me to think on two things that I saw during that 25 minute window. To be honest with you, I’m not sure I’ve fully been able to process the things I saw. I wanted to share them with you. Valentine’s Day is upon us. Whether you love it or think its Hallmark milking the world dry, it gets us thinking about love. Cue Haddaway “What is Love?” In all seriousness, I’d like you to take a moment and think about two types of love: self-love and unconditional love. Take your time, I’ll still be here.

Watch this video now:

Kind of heavy, isn’t it? If you had to write a love letter to yourself, what would it say? Unfortunately, I’d have one more like the lady with the glasses. I’ve not been as kind to myself as I should. It’s something I need to work on. I rarely prioritize myself or take proper care of myself. I’m not trying to say that you need to be selfish. There is a line between self love and selfishness that is often hard to see for someone who isn’t used to practicing it. I found a good article about how to practice self love, if you ‘d like to take time to read it now, click here.

Now for the second video, you will need 20 minutes and extra tissue for the last seven minutes:

Three unconditional love stories highlighting sacrifice. Sometimes putting another first is the most gratifying thing you can do.

Please take some time to think about these two types of love and how you can practice them both in your life.

      Maria,

I’m glad you enjoyed the post! I love your blog! You’ll be pleased to know I can totally back you up on not drinking the water in Mexico. I was in a much less glamorous part building homes and I got very, very sick. On the flip side, it gives you permission to drink more Tequila!
