Here at CGR, we’re all about saving money. We know, however, sometimes you just have to spend more money to get quality. When it comes to work out wear for women there are several things you should never skimp on. We’ve already shown you some great items for less here. I’ll show you a few cute splurge-worthy items but first we need to talk about those things you must be willing to pay as much as you find you can afford: Bras and Shoes.
For bras, you need an encapsulated sports bra for anything over walking or light yoga. To reduce pain, swelling, and tissue strain you need to get the best you can afford. I know a decent amount about sports bras as I used to be a fit tester for a major brand for their D+ size range. Let me show you your best options.
Sizes 30 DDD – 40H
You need this bra! I have a 36G bust and I can run in this bra. I can do half jacks and jump in it. You don’t move. It’s smooth enough to wear under regular clothes too. I’ve had mine for about a year and wash and wear it regularly. It still looks and feels brand new. This isn’t always carried in the store but you can return it there if it doesn’t fit you!
Sizes 32B – 38DD
This is the best high impact option for smaller busts. Obviously, I haven’t tried it myself but many of my smaller busted girlfriends swear by it. You usually need to go up a cup size and down a band size in this for a perfect fit. This is a 50/50 store carried item but once again you can return in store if needed.
Sizes 6 – 11
If you’re looking for a truly barefoot feel with adequate protection for the trails or even street running then these are for you. I can’t say enough about how great they fit with their zero heel, small heel cups, and wider toe box. These shoes will also last a very long time due to their design. They do run a bit small so order up a half size.
Sizes 5 – 12
Brooks makes great shoes in every category. If you’re looking for more traditional stability but with a real lightweight feel in a trail runner, this is your best bet!
Size 5 – 12
Nike makes some of my favorite running shoes of all time. If you want a hybrid shoe between barefoot and traditional then the Free is really the best option! I own several pairs and I love them!
Sizes 5 – 12
Have weak ankles? Is pronation a problem? These are some of the best running shoes for stability. They can also double as a walking or fashion sneaker. They are so comfortable you almost forget they are on!
These are you best bet for a dance or Zumba class. They pivot and slide but offer enough stability and traction to prevent injury. These are a must for anyone who has foot, ankle, or knee injuries looking to undertake a studio class.
Sizes 5 – 12
These offer the best all around utility of just about any shoe out there. You can run in them, train in the gym, walk and even do a cardio class. They have a slightly different fit and tread then other free styles to try to fit all this utility in. I have a pair and I mostly use them for gym sessions where I go back and forth from the cardio machines to the weight stacks!
Splurge Worthy Workout Wear
My favorite all-around brand is Zella. A top exec from Lululemon left the company to create a more inclusive and quality brand. The fabrics, seaming, and size range are superlative.
Sizes XS – 3X
Zella leggings are a cult product for a reason. These are pretty much the best leggings I’ve ever put on and you can wear them in the gym or pretty much anywhere else. Totally opaque and no bagging. They compress lightly holding all the jiggle you might have in. I swear they make you look thinner too.
Sizes XXS – 3X
This is a great tee in either size set. It wicks, looks cute, and can transition to the street!
Sizes XS – 3X
Cute patterned Capri’s that look nice on any size! I’ll take two pairs!
Size XS – 3X
Cute mesh insert panels, thumb holes, and neck protectors aren’t something you’ll usually find in lower cost items. Not to mention the legendary seaming that acts as an optical slimmer and is chafe free flat lock in all their clothes!
I hope you will check your finances and purchase workout wear that’s the best you can afford in the must have categories! I can’t express the genuine difference bras and shoes can make in your performance and comfort!
