The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is something many of us wait for every year. If you aren’t in the know, this is a massive yearly sale with many of the best items of the season at 40%. It’s always smack dab in the middle of summer so it’s the perfect time to stock up on summer essentials and your early fall and transitional items. There is one thing I always buy there every year and this post is about to get really real. Bras. Ladies and Gents, I guarantee you most of the women in your life are wearing the wrong bra size. Wearing the wrong size makes wearing a bra absolute torture. Ever see someone rip off their bra in a frenzy as soon as they get home from work? Back pain? Shoulders that have “bra ruts”? This year took a different twist as I finally convinced my friend and her mother to come with me to the sale to get fitted. They both needed new bras and they wanted quality but they didn’t want to pay 100’s of dollars for a new undergarment wardrobe. I bet them both they were wearing the wrong size. Let’s profile our marks:
1. a 27 year old with an athletic build with some feminine curves who thinks she wears a 34C
2. a 63 year old mother of 4 who is short and plus sized who thinks she is a 42 DD
I told my friend she was probably a 36D or DD. I told her mom she was probably between a 40 and a 42 (her ribcage is closer to a 38 but she has a lot of side boob) and probably an F cup. They both scoffed but went along with it. The fittings were pretty painless. The ladies at Nordstrom are pros. They will put you at ease even when you’re half naked with a tape around you! They also know the stock. Once they have your correct size they take your shape and any of your concerns into account, working their magic to bring you several styles and brands.
In this case it turns out I was right on both counts. My friend was done in a matter of moments. She was a 36D to DD depending on brand. She wanted bras that would work under t-shirts to smooth in fun colors. Here is what she ending up buying:
Josie Femme Contour Bra $25.90
This one is a slight push up and gives a great shape for tank tops!
Natori Jacquard Underwire Bra $41.90
This one gives a full round shape with a smooth transition between cup and cleavage.
Natori Hidden Glamor Contour Bra $44.90
This one is full coverage and a more natural shape. According to my friend it’s “like your boobs are resting on clouds”.
Mama took a bit longer because she was smack dab between a 40 and a 42 in band size. FF or F was the best fit but a few other brands might have worked in a G as well. It was amazing to see the difference because she looked like she lost 20 pounds in the new bras. It was also a much more youthful and full shape. She was immediately taken with the comfort of the new size. We looked for a bra that was low cut enough for deep v tanks and tee’s as well as a fuller coverage smoothing bra that works better under higher necklines or tunic shape tops. Our bra specialist found a fuller coverage one easily but it took forever to find a bra for those deeply cut shirts that fit correctly and were still flattering. We finally struck gold! Here is what she ended up getting:
This one is actually great for lower cut shirts when you are busty without the worry of potential slippage.
This one gave a really nice full shape with comfort straps and a very soft center gore. This one is great if you have to sit at a desk all day because the middle is very comfortable.
I’d encourage all my readership to get fitted or get their loved ones fitted at Nordstom to take advantage of this amazing sale. Normally most of these bras were about $20 more expensive on average. I know no one likes going undergarment shopping but going to Nordstrom takes the sting out of it. Shoes, bags, and makeup are other obvious sale buys at Nordstrom Anniversary Sale but I think foundation garments should be, well, foundational to your sale stock up.

I must say I was a little daunted by the idea of a stranger seeing me half naked just to buy a bra (I don’t have the kind of body one would feel proud of). But Erin seemed so sure of the positive experience we would have that I decided what the heck!
Off we went and she was RIGHT!!! It did take quite a while to find two bras because of my size and particular shape needs. The young woman who helped me was very nice and spent a lot of time looking for bras…I got cranky…she never did! My only regret is that it took 63 years to find out my true cup size!!!!!!!!
Yup, those ladies are great!
Those bras are cute! I am a pretty standard size, so finding bras isn’t hard for me, but I still try to look for ones that fit me perfectly of course.
I wish I was a more standard size too like my friend I took… way more selection.
