Now let me preface all this by saying I am not much of a “fashionisto”. When I want to consult someone as to whether I look good in something, I turn to Erin. I’m more of a wear-or-use-it till it’s broke kind of guy. All that being said, not too terribly long ago Bellroy and The Wallet Shoppe sent us their Slim Sleeve in Slate for us to try.
As you can imagine, it took a lot of internal prodding for me to give the Slim Sleeve a try. I’ve grown accustomed to carrying an Alligator Jack Georges (a Christmas gift from an important friend about 4 years back now) because I’ve enjoyed its size and the ability to have all I need at my fingertips. That of course has been fine for work and other more costly endeavors where I’ve needed multiple spending options or other small items at hand that I could just fish out as desired. The Slim Sleeve with its two small internal pockets and two small sleeves… how could it begin to compare?
Better than I could have ever imagined, all thanks to pants. Specifically, trim-fitting, good-looking, not-old-man jeans (ask Erin). The short story? If I want to look good out on the town with my wife, I need to dress the part. My large wallet made that a huge struggle on a good day but being the stubborn fellow I am, it never occurred to me there might be a simple fix. The Slim Sleeve fits neatly, holding my drivers license, ID and Visa (the essential, while managing about 2 cards per sleeve comfortably) as well as cash with no discomfort whatsoever. It quickly became my go-to when on-the-go. Still, I had one more challenge in mind.
I had a two week long excursion scheduled with lots of movement and hiking in mind and knew the Slim Sleeve would be accompanying me on my trip for a wear and tear examination. It faired much better than hoped. The wallet’s inner-strap for easy access left an imprint in the back and some of the paint(?) wore on the top of the inside of the wallet near the cards but otherwise held up wonderfully. TLDR? A summary follows:
Fits well in less-than-accommodating wardrobes (skinny jeans or slim fit trousers)
Holds the essentials and just a touch more with no trouble
The amount of wear over two months and a LOT of activity is respectable
Best used on small excursions or trips to the gym
Overall? I’m quite satisfied with the Slim Sleeve and would definitely recommend it for those who can afford to trim a little fat off their wallets or for quick trips. I’m happy to say I can have two wallets and move easily between them to meet all my needs.
