While I firmly believe Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark occasion at best, it can be a nice reminder to do something for a loved one or allow yourself some indulgences after your monastic typical January. I love any chance to give gifts so I’m happy to support the retail industry!
There is nothing wrong with a night on the town, flowers, and chocolate! If that is your thing, go for it! My husband and I tend to go on and off with stereotypical gifts. We are going out to dinner this year at a nicer place. It’s really our first nice outing since my birthday back in October. Don’t worry, I’ll take pictures of everything I eat and post it to Instagram.
Perfume, jewelry, and lingerie are usually given to women on this holiday. These are fine gifts but why not go outside the heart shaped box a bit?
1. Scentbird: Scentbird is a great way to give a perfume you will be sure she will like because she can choose it herself! Give a little or a lot! Check out the plans here.
2. Robes and Loungewear: They can be just as sexy as lingerie and she will get continued use out of it. Anthropologie and Nordstrom offer great selections of sensual options in silk, velvet, and cashmere.
3. Jewelry: Don’t go to the mall jeweler and get something ordinary unless it’s a classic like diamond studs. Get something different from Monica Vinader or Liven Co. Anthropologie also carries some nice offbeat selections including some more affordable pieces from Liven Co and Elizabeth and James.
Ladies and Gents, feel free to get a man in your life the same type of thing. A watch? Some nice cologne? Or if you are feeling particularly daring and saucy maybe something from HommeMystere for a little role play! Nice loungewear or silk boxers is a more traditionally sexy choice, silk pj’s being a great practical and sensual luxury!
The best gifts always come from the heart. I’m getting my husband the Paris Foil Art Print I mentioned in my post here. We took a very belated honeymoon to Paris. It was one of the best times of either of our lives. With the exception of both of us getting ill for two days and my broken toe, we were the happiest we’ve ever been. Two weeks of art, strolling and finding cheap hole in the wall restaurants. We had one elegant evening out at one of the best restaurants in St.Germain. Gelato almost every night on the steps of the Pantheon and meandering hot afternoons away in the Luxembourg gardens. Our only worries were if we should eat at the same cheap and chic Chinese place again or try our luck elsewhere. I hope every time he looks at the map, he’ll be reminded of that time and how perfect it was.
I found a few fun and practical ideas while out combing the web that I thought I’d share with you!
His & Her Mugs
Limited Edition Candles
Jo Malone’s candle is full of roses and spices while the Diptyque is a green fresh take on roses. Romatique, non?
If Rose isn’t your thing even when done well, try Diptyque Feu De Bois or Henri Bendel Firewood for all of the romance of a roaring fire without the hassle! I’m starting to think I might combine the Jo Malone and the Henri Bendel for the best romantic olfactory experience ever!
Elevating Gin Rummy
These come in rose or traditional gold for the cardsharp in your life!
Make your work environment or your Valentine’s as nice as possible!
The Wine Lover’s Trio
Did I get you thinking about the most romantic city in the world? These beautiful books will help you travel there in images, scents, and tastes!
When in doubt, gift cards!
I hope whatever you choose to do or give on Valentine’s Day you enjoy yourself! Even if you think it’s fluff, love is always in!
