bareMinerals Complexion Rescue has been all the rage this summer with other bloggers so I figured I needed to try it. I had some concernes from the get go about how this product would work for me but it’s turned out to work well for the summer. Here is the marketing copy:

What else you need to know:
This product is dermatologist-tested and hypoallergenic. It does not contain silicone, fragrance, or oil.
In an independent U.S. clinical study of 62 participants:
– 100% experienced an improvement in skin texture after just 1 week
Opal on my NW 5-10 arm. The texture is quite mousse like but when rubbing it in it’s gets thin.
That’s quite a laundry list of promises. I wear this several times a week and I’ve seen no changes in texture that I can soley attribute to this cream. I’ve had some texture imporvements but that’s courtesy of my current skincare routine. It certainly does keep things moisturized and I haven’t burned on my face and neck while wearing it.
First application post hospital. You can see the broken capillaries all over my neck and chest but the ones on my face are mostly obscured by the product. Derma E Hydrating Night Cream and Fresh Black Tea Essence underneath.
The shade selection seems better online. When I went to test it, I noticed the lighter shades didn’t look as light and the darker shades looked lighter than the swatches online. I was matched to the shade Opal.
My fourth of July look, this was on top of Tartegaurd.
The best way to apply this is a dense fluffy brush. I don’t have a Beauty Blender but I’m sure it would work too. I tried a flat foundation brush and my fingers and it was a hot mess of pores and uneven coverage. Using my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush I’m able to buff on a super thin layer and then use a stippling motion over any area I need slightly more coverage. The coverage of bareMinerals Complexion Rescue is slightly better than some tinted moisturizers I’ve used but not as good as my NARS TM. It’s layerable as long as you only need two layers to reach your desired coverage. More than two layers starts to look cakey. It feels cooling and hydrating when applied. I find on my combo/dry skin it actually lasts well without a primer even in heat and humidity. The finish of the product is luminous without powder and will get very dewy in oily areas. I have only one complaint and that’s that the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue oxidies on me by almost a full shade. I will not be able to wear it in the winter and if I don’t blend it all the way down my neck, it can look very bad at the jaw line. I think part of this may be the need to wear moisturizer underneath, beause it’s not enough for me on its own half of the time. Luckily, it doesn’t turn orange, just a bit darker and warmer. The scent of the product is slightly sunscreen like blended with a waterlilly type smell, it disipates after a few minutes after application.
The major caveats to the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue are the oxidization and the amount of time it takes for application. I don’t mind putting in the extra time to really work it into the skin but I do hate the oxidation. This might not be the case for everyone. I’ve read plenty of reviews and only one or two mentioned it. In the photos I’m not wearing any concealer or powder so you can see the true coverage and finish. As you can see, I need some concealer or corrector around the eyes still but everything else is pretty much taken care of. I would consider buying a full tube if they came out with a slightly lighter shade. I do think that if you need minimal to moderate coverage but don’t want to feel like you are wearing more than moisturizer, give this a go. Overall I give this a B+ rating.
