The folks at Gentlemen’s Tonic wrote and asked if we’d be interested in trying some of their products. It’s rare for products for men to come across my PR desk, so of course I said yes. My husband was sent the Gentlemen’s Tonic Gentle Body Wash scented with babassu and bergamot. Here is what the company has to say about the body wash:
Our invigorating Body Wash cleans and energises while maintaining the skins natural moisture balance. Vegetable glycerine, honey and wheat extracts soften and condition the skin while Ginger and Menthol will leave you energised.
Menthol: freshens, invigorates, cools and deodorises the skin.
Ginger extract: stimulates circulation to the skin, leaving it energised.
Vegetable glycerine, honey and wheat extracts: soften and condition the skin.
Babassu Oil: melts at body temperature drawing heat from the skin producing a cooling effect.
Also forms a protective, soothing coat providing a luxurious, velvety feeling.
Bergamot Oil: an essential oil renowned for its uplifting and tension-relieving properties.
My husband is slow to adopt new products, but he took to this one like a duck to water. He’s been using a body wash from Trader Joes which is actually fairly nice, but this is an upgrade. The Gentlemen’s Tonic Gentle Body Wash comes in a nice heavy duty plastic bottle with a pouring cap that also has a squeeze function. You can use the product in the bath as a softening foam or as a traditional body wash. The product itself is thick and viscous. You don’t need a lot to wash your whole body, I’d say about a quarters worth so it will last a long time. Paired with a Salux towel you need even less!
The scent of the body wash is the real star here. It’s deep and earthy; very masculine. It smells like expensive aftershave mixed with wool, leather, and a mahogany-lined library. Since this is an English brand, it smells much like what you would think English gentlemen from a bygone era would smell like but not in a stuffy old fashioned way. Just traditional, well groomed, well traveled and well to do. The scent lingers on the skin quite strongly for days. If your guy isn’t much for cologne this could be a problem as it’s tenacious. It sits close to the skin, you would need to be within three feet to smell it. My husband is a very active guy and often due to his line of work can spend days in the field without a shower. He says surprisingly, this keeps him fresh and soft long after the shower is over. I can certainly attest to it’s deodorizing powers, no workout funk is left behind and any odors produced are masked and mixed with the scent and are hardly noticeable. Luckily it mixes with his cologne, YSL L’Homme perfectly, due to the similar top notes and base notes. It does make the cologne a little bit more overtly manly than it smells on its own.
Somehow it manages to be a titan of scent but doesn’t strip the skin in slightest. It’s quite softening and conditioning, but it rinses clean. The skin is left velvety soft and the body hair is also conditioned. There aren’t any traditional sulfates or any harsh chemicals. It’s a fairly natural product and my husband’s oily to normal skin seems a lot more normal than oily these days. There is also a gentle cooling effect on the skin that is nice for after sun or workouts that my husband really appreciates.
The Gentlemen’s Tonic brand is all about elevating basics to a luxe level while maintaining practicality. The Gentle Body Wash is a great example of that philosophy. It does everything they say it will and neither of us can find any faults in the product or packaging. The cost is a little high at $24 USD for 8.4 oz of product, but you need so little, it will last months even with a daily shower schedule. If you are in the UK, there are luxury stores that sell this product as well as Gentlemen’s Tonic’s own shops that offer services too where you can pick this up. In the US and Europe, you will have to order it directly from the company. Overall we are very satisfied with the product and certainly merits an A from us. My husband is already eyeing the pre-shave oil and the hand cream which speaks volumes.
Have you tried Gentlemen’s Tonic Gentle Body Wash or anything else from the brand? If so let us know what you thought!
