Swatch: One pass and built up!
A close up of the sparkle, this is four layers of balm. Without makeup, it pulls slightly cooler than with makeup on my face.
Being the Fresh junkie that I am, if they come out with a new color I have to try it. I went into Sephora but lo and behold they didn’t have it on the shelves yet. I decided to get a Sephora order with a few lip and skin care items and eagerly awaited the package. As soon as it arrived I ripped open the package to try the Fresh Fig Sugar Lip Treatment because #obsessed! The color is dubbed as a “pearlescent wine tint” and I was honestly disappointed. The first time I tried it on, it imparted very little color. It muted my lip shade and felt gritty. I was actually going to return it. My husband asked me to try it again and I still felt the same way. I decided to try it a third time and I finally figured out how to apply it. Unlike their sheer or cream shades, this shade has to be packed on to deliver color and to cushion the pearlescent particles. With my other shades, I can just skim the lips lightly for a perfect finish with no building required unless I want to really up the color factor. Once you layer it, it feels smooth and looks good. When you swatch Fig, it’s certainly the color promised. On my lips, it mutes the tone and makes it a little warmer and somehow more “nude”. It’s perfect for me for smoky eye looks as it adds a nice finish and changes the tone. I don’t find Fig as long lasting in the color department as some of the shades but without eating or drinking I get about 3 hours of full color and perfect finish. Shimmer is left behind after eating or drinking, but most of the color will have come off by then. Reapplying is easy and convenient so that isn’t too much of a problem for me. It’s just as moisturizing and conditioning as my other colors. Obviously, it feels a little goopier than the other shades due to how much I need to put on to get color pay off but your mileage may vary!
A shot of the product in context. You can see it looks warmer on me than in the swatch or without makeup.
I like it but I don’t love it. I won’t be returning it because it does a nice job of conditioning the lips and I like that it functions a neutral foil for smoky eyes. I give it a B+ rating and I’m sure many of you will like it.
