The only holiday set I committed to getting this year was the Best Bite Rewind! I missed it last year which I still kick myself over. This year all the crayons are matte which made hesitate ever so slightly, but I decided to get it anyway! If you want to get a lip set this year for yourself or someone else, buy this one now. They sell out quickly! Here is what Bite has to say about Best Bite Rewind 2015:
What it is:
A gift-ready set of four, deluxe-size Mini Matte Crème Lip Crayons in a purse-sized holiday tin.
What it does:
Best Bite Rewind features a universal and festive, hydrating, lip crayon collection in four matte finishes. Premium triple-milled pigments provide powdery light, highly pigmented payoff, while naturally derived orange peel wax naturally protects and seals in moisture. Housed in a fun, holiday tin, this set is perfect for gifting.
This set contains:
– 4 x 0.031 oz Mini Matte Crème Lip Crayons in Café (peachy-brown nude), Torte (brown-toned rose), Coulis (raspberry red), Aubergine (eggplant)
Café, Torte, Aubergine, and Coulis
This set is a great value. The formula is stellar though some shades are more satin and moisturizing than others. The pigmentation also varies from shade to shade. The shades are all comfortable to wear and feel lightweight on the lips. Three of the shades are LE and the Aubergine shade is the only permanent shade in the collection. There are no real duds in the set color or formula wise and the colors will flatter most skin tones making it a no-brainer to gift! I tested all the shades bare lipped and faced, so you can see the true color. All photos are taken in natural morning light. The only prep was Bite Agave Lip Mask the night before application. They all smell and taste like Smarties candy. The tin is sturdy and the mirror inside the lid is perfect for applying the shades. I believe this is a Sephora exclusive!
Café is the lightest shade in the set. It’s described as a peachy brown nude but on me it skews pink. It’s very similar to NARS Rikugen in color, but it’s matte. This was the least moisturizing and shortest wear for me. I have very pigmented lips so this required a touch up after eating. Sipping tea or a water bottle didn’t disturb it, but a snack did. It didn’t stain my lips. After eating it looked like a chalky hot mess because my lip color was showing through. I got 5 hours of wear before eating so it was still successful. Touching up after eating was easy with no balling or pilling. Being that I’m very fair, the lip color did wash me out a little but would have been fine if I wore other makeup. The finish on this one is pretty matte. I didn’t settle in my lip lines too much and was opaque after two light layers.
Two shots after applying and then this last shot is after 2 drinks and lunch 5 hours after application.
Torte is described as a brown toned rose shade and I think that is fairly correct. On me, it skews more rose than brown but there is a bit of a neutral brown undertone. Torte is moisturizing and long wearing. It’s the perfect MLBB shade on me. It’s warmer than my own lip shade and slightly brighter. This is one layer of product. I got 7 hours of wear out of Torte before it started to noticeably fade. There was a light stain left behind and it looked great under a clear balm. As you can see when freshly applied, it had a delicate sheen and really plumped any lines. It also smoothed over imperfections. After my lunch the product lost it’s sheen and became much more matte. The color wasn’t diminished at all. I’ve worn this shade a few times and it really goes with any look so it’s quickly becoming a staple.
Aubergine first applied in morning sun and after lunch in cool indoor lighting.
Aubergine is described as an eggplant shade but with one layer it’s more of a mid toned berry shade. It can be built up and darkened a little but not by much. It applies like a satin lip pencil and becomes more matte over time. Aubergine is kind to lip lines and dry patches until you eat a meal and then some of the moisture is zapped out of it but it still looks smooth. I found it moisturizing and conditioning over wear. I love this color and it’s a nice vampy shade that’s perfect for fall without being too dark or too purple. It’s the perfect pairing for a neutral brown eyeshadow look. The product wore on me for a good 7 hours and stained my lips. I’ve worn it a few times and the stain lasts for a good 4 to 6 hours after it’s begun fading. I’ve revived it with clear balm and my Fresh Sugar Berry Lip Treatment to spectacular results. This makes it my new choice for lip products when going out eat.
Freshly applied in sunlight and indoor light. Coulis after lunch in indoor light.
Coulis is my favorite shade in the bunch and it’s the brightest shade. It’s dubbed as a raspberry red and that’s exactly what it is. This is the perfect shade for people who want a punchier color without it being too bright. The shade wakes up my complexion and makes my teeth look whiter. It’s a similar to Revlon Cherries in the Snow on me, but it’s not as bright and it’s ever so slightly darker. The finish is not matte in the slightest and it never quite becomes matte either. It’s the most moisturizing shade and the kindest to lines and imperfections. It makes you lips look plump and young. It wears well over the day, looking pretty good after drinking and eating. I get about 6 hours out of this one before it starts to fade into a juicy stain. The stain lasts until I take off my makeup unless I eat something exceptionally greasy. The stain looks very nice under clear balm. After I wear this shade my lips feel like silk!
The Best Bite Rewind set is a must own! It’s a portable mini lip wardrobe with a shade for every look. Even if you don’t like matte formulations, I’d give it a try. It’s very comfortable to wear. My only gripe about this set is the lack of sharpeners in the bottom of the lip pencil like the full-size shades have. I like this so much I might buy a backup. Bite, if you are listening please make Coulis and Torte permanent shades! This set gets an A rating and if you like wearing full coverage lip products buy it before it’s sold out!
