Sorry to be reviewing another Fresh product so soon! Since I’ve only met two Fresh products I didn’t like, I often sample their new releases! The Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask isn’t exactly new on the scene, but it seemed to take my Sephora forever to get it. I got my TINY sample a few weeks ago and used it while I was waiting for the Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo to come back in stock so I could refill Luna and Good Genes. I feel confident that my two week or so use should be enough to form a decent opinion.
Just as a side note, the samples at Sephora have been getting smaller and smaller plus harder to open. I usually need to use something for a week or so before I notice any real issues with a product unless it’s a mismatch from first use. These new sample sizes make that almost impossible. For real tests of skincare, I’ll probably need to start asking for multiple samples. What I was given of the Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask was probably only enough for 3 uses. Luckily, I use Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Infusion essence before hand which takes care of a lot my hydration needs so what ever I put on top goes much farther.
What it is:
An intensely moisturizing overnight treatment that works in sync with the skin’s natural nighttime recovery process to achieve a lifted, firmer look by the morning.
What it is formulated to do:
This moisturizing treatment has a corset-like effect on the skin, giving the appearance of a visibly more defined, contoured complexion. A proprietary complex of black tea ferment, black tea extract, blackberry leaf extract, and lychee seed extract inhibits damaging free radicals and helps to improve skin elasticity, while belle de nuit extract helps to soothe and rebalance the skin. The formula contains peptides to firm the skin and visibly defy the signs of gravity, and hyaluronic acid to help attract and maintain moisture to enhance suppleness.

I think Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask lives up to the majority of it’s claims. We’ll get into the meat of that, but I want to describe the product in more depth first.
The Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask comes in a luxurious and heavy glass jar with a tight fitting lid with almost three and a half ounces of product. I’d prefer it if it came in the same packaging as their Peony Brightening Mask, but Fresh really seems to go for the luxury feel of the jar. The consistency of the product is like pudding. It’s silky, slightly bouncy, and feels really rich. When you place it on the skin and start to massage it in, it does thin out very quickly with the heat of the skin and sinks in quickly. The scent which does linger for a few minutes is their classic black tea scent; a little cucumber, citrus, and black tea all coming together to create a very calming and pampering experience. You’re left with soft, supple skin that feels like touching a rose petal. No greasy feel in the morning either. I was using a pea sized amount or less nightly for just under two weeks. The directions say to apply it liberally and I applied sparingly. I do think a small amount more might have been helpful but between my essence and my occasional morning routine, I didn’t feel dry enough to warrant massaging in more.
I tried using the Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask in different ways:
1. As a “sealant”: Most sleeping masks are meant to seal in your products you put on before hand. I tried it with oils, serums, and different essences underneath.
2. As a base: I tried layering other creams on top if I had areas that were a bit drier.
3. As an all in one solution: After cleansing, toning, and an essence, I’d just put on a layer and go to sleep!
I had the best skin after using it as a stand alone product. My skin felt a little too greased up after the other combinations and it did seem to play best with my other Fresh products. I found using my Seaberry Oil in the morning and this product at night were almost enough hydration. I did get a slight flaky patch by my eyebrow during testing. The nature of the Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask doesn’t really soak into the surrounding tissues like an oil or serum might, so you need a precise application or you might get dry in some of the border areas of the face, so make sure you cover your whole face.
The first morning, I noticed my face looked great, I didn’t notice any real firming, but I’m in my 30’s so that’s not a huge issue yet. My skin looked plump and fresh with a youthful glow. I’d been off my Sunday Riley products for a week and this restored the glow I was losing. I saw a reduction in redness on the first day and by the end of the sample, I looked like I was wearing tinted moisturizer. All redness but my actual rosacea was gone. By the end of the two weeks, I noted my brows looked every so slightly higher and my husband said my face looked slimmer. I seemed to maintain the progress I’d made with my Sunday Riley products in terms of texture and pore size too. I’ve been using Pixi Glow Tonic as well so I’m sure that’s been helping. I didn’t notice any additional breakouts or clogs from using this product, but I only used it for a short time. I was surprised because this has several of my clog triggers in it, but I guess I’m exfoliating enough that occasional use won’t be a problem.
The Fresh Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask is a really nice product. I feel it lived up to the claims as far as I could test them. My skin didn’t feel firmer to the touch, but there was a slight bit of lifting and depuffing that I can’t attribute to any other product used on my face. I was using a new eye cream but not anywhere outside the eye area. I do feel it’s a nice moisture product as well as a soothing product. I’m indoors pretty much most of the day and the heater is on constantly so it’s doing well with helping combat such dry conditions. I feel if I wasn’t using a hydrating essence, I’d need much more product to achieve the same effect. This is a perfect product if you are lazy at night, just cleanse and tone and use this. While it’s not quite as good as a full routine, it’s good enough with its own and with nice effects to be a stand alone treatment or a sole evening product. I think it’s the perfect product to use when you need a little break from stronger products in your evening routine. I also feel this would be great over prescription Retin-A. With it’s firming benefits, it might make an excellent neck and decolletage cream. Norstrom is currently doing a gift with purchase Fresh event that is too good to pass up!
