With January done and dusted, I can give you a list of my favorites from the month. Most of these things will not be beauty related or stuff I’ve already reviewed, so as Samuel L Jackson says in this blog’s namesake movie “hold on to your butts”!
I’ve talked about this before but it’s a real life saver when you have an upset tummy or any intestinal or digestion issues. I have yet to meet a flavor I don’t like. I tried Tangerine for the first time this month and it really fills my craving for orange juice with hardly any sugar. They always make me feel better! I’d also recommend these to pregnant ladies who are missing cocktails as the mojito flavor is perfect!
Even though my tolerance to dairy has improved since I’ve been supplementing with Great Lakes Collagen, I’ve been feeding my dog greek yogurt as a way to help his urinary tract issues. I was sneaking a few bites but I forgot it’s 100% casein which I’m allergic to as well and I did have a minor reaction. I decided to look for alternatives since I desperately miss yogurt. Most soy yogurt is chock full of sugar but this coconut one isn’t. It’s got live cultures and a lot of protein and fiber per serving plus it doesn’t taste like plastic. Still not as good as the real thing but it’s much better than other “fuaxgurts” I’ve had in the past.
These happened to be on sale at Whole Foods and after sampling them, I couldn’t resist. These are crazy good. While taking them, I think I lost half or a whole pants size at my waist in 3 weeks. Everything moved like clockwork and bloating was down to a minimum. These offer a different strain than the Kevita drinks and they may have worked synergistically. Unfortunately, after going off them when I finished the bottle, I was having what seemed like an intestinal flu. Which may be the case or my intestines just might be on strike. If you want to try them they are cheaper on Amazon than in Whole Foods unless there is a sale. Click here to check out these tasty treats!
Trader Joe’s Belgian Butter Almond Thins
OMG. These are so good. They are low in sugar and high in taste. If you could imagine the best animal cracker you ever had as a child, then make it crunchy and almondy, this would be it. They are filling with a bit of protein and fiber. Just be safe and put a serving on a plate and then put them away. Even though they are filling, it’s easy for you and your dog to eat way too many while watching The Blacklist. Not that I would know anything about that.
The biggest surprise came from this humble little cheesecake. I’d heard it raved about by a few of my vegan friends on Instagram but I hadn’t tried it myself. I love cheesecake. Not going to lie. It’s one of my more favorite desserts. How could it be any good, I mean, it’s vegan! WRONG! SO WRONG! As far as frozen cheesecake goes, it’s the best I’ve ever had. Since I can’t have key lime pie anymore either, it’s like having a two in one explosion of awesome in your mouth. These are a little pricey. I got them on sale, for $2 off and now I know even the full $9 price is worth it. Most nicer frozen cheesecakes are about the same price anyhow. It’s silky, creamy, firm, and zippy. The crust is tasty too. It’s lower in calories, lower in sugar, and 1/4 of the cake is a serving which is actually a very satisfying amount. It keeps in a very cold fridge under plastic for 4 days so if you are single don’t worry about it, you can have it for a few days and it’s still as yummy as day one. It’s gluten and soy free too! Next time these go on sale, I’ll be buying a whole freezer’s worth.
I hope you guys check a few of these things out. I’ll point out that I’m a pretty healthy eater so these things might not be as “sweet” or as satisfying to you if you are eating a higher sugar or carb diet. I think these are all freaking fantastic treats with just the right amount of sweetness. Since January is the month of healthy stuff and weight loss resolutions, I think these would be great healthy substitutions if you are looking to clean up your diet. They are still processed and have sugar but we have to be a little bad sometimes, don’t we?
Have you tried any of my January favorites? Let me know, if you have.
