Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Firebird Lipstick came out a few weeks ago and I wanted it so bad! It’s actually a fairly unique shade and I think the formula is different than the regular Urban Decay lipsticks but don’t quote me on that. Here is what UD has to say!
What it is:
A collection of six lipstick shades—from sheer to cream to mega matte—created in collaboration with Gwen Stefani.
What it does:
Gwen Stefani worked with Urban Decay to create her blend of perfect shades and ideal textures. This lineup of six shades ranges from a bright red matte to a shimmering sheer nude and a creamy deep fuchsia. It features Urban Decay’s first-ever shade in Mega Matte finish—an ultra-bold matte that lays down a lot of color in one coat. Formulated with Urban Decay’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System™, these shades offer a super-creamy texture, rich color payoff, and superior color dispersion.

What else you need to know:
Everything in the limited-edition Urban Decay Gwen Stefani collection was developed in close collaboration with Gwen. Urban Decay’s product development team spent countless hours her house, talking makeup and working with her on every detail of the collection. Gwen Stefani directed the packaging design, which was inspired by her love of black-and-white graphic prints and antique gold accents. Urban Decay created everything with her, filling a void by developing all of the perfect shades she always wished she had in her collection. And with these products in your arsenal, you’ll have all the essentials to recreate her signature looks for yourself.

It was worth the wait. Honestly, I kind of want them all now. The packaging is the biggest disappointment for me because the swivel on mine doesn’t work properly. I am not sure if it was damaged in shipping or if that is just how it is. Sometimes it doesn’t swivel up or down and sometimes it does. It makes me upset but I can’t know how it happened. The formula is rich and buttery while applying but maintains a chiffon veil like feel on the lips. It’s quite extraordinary. There is no real scent or taste. No dragging or skipping, it glides on and stays on. The color is a bright fuchsia that has a blue pearl that somehow manages to be bold but mature. I could see this being fine in the office as well as a club. The color wore for a good 6 to 8 hours depending on drinking and snacking habits. It’s not transfer proof and it will get pretty wrecked by a meal. Anything with a bit of fat and it will break up all over. That is my only complaint because when it breaks up, it might move outside the lip lines. It stains deeply, so deep I had it on still the next day. If you take an oil cleanser to your lips you will remove most of the pigment. I didn’t find it drying nor was it hydrating which is odd because it almost feels like lip balm when it’s on the lips. The opacity is high, I found it to be full coverage on me in one pass. It’s not 100% opaque (very close) though so it might look a little different on every wearer.

I love the formula of the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Firebird Lipstick. I love it enough to want to pick up a few more shades from the line. I think I’ll be going for Wonderland (a bright pink-red) and Rock Steady (a dark berry red) as I don’t have a lot of reds in my collection. The formula holds its own against more expensive formulas and is a total steal at $18. I wish these were permanent!
