After my success with Firebird, I knew I wanted to get more of these lipsticks. Then the VIB sale happened so I had to pick up some more. I have yet to review or even wear Wonderland yet but Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Rock Steady Lipstick has been what I’ve been wearing quite a lot of. I’ve been a tad under the weather, so I decided to talk about lipstick instead of perfume. Also, if there is any chance of you getting your hands on these still you need to act fast. Rock Steady is a total Holy Grail and I might try to find a backup.
What it is:
A collection of six lipstick shades—from sheer to cream to mega matte—created in collaboration with Gwen Stefani.
What it does:
Gwen Stefani worked with Urban Decay to create her blend of perfect shades and ideal textures. This lineup of six shades ranges from a bright red matte to a shimmering sheer nude and a creamy deep fuchsia. It features Urban Decay’s first-ever shade in Mega Matte finish—an ultra-bold matte that lays down a lot of color in one coat. Formulated with Urban Decay’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System™, these shades offer a super-creamy texture, rich color payoff, and superior color dispersion.

What else you need to know:
Everything in the limited-edition Urban Decay Gwen Stefani collection was developed in close collaboration with Gwen. Urban Decay’s product development team spent countless hours her house, talking makeup and working with her on every detail of the collection. Gwen Stefani directed the packaging design, which was inspired by her love of black-and-white graphic prints and antique gold accents. Urban Decay created everything with her, filling a void by developing all of the perfect shades she always wished she had in her collection. And with these products in your arsenal, you’ll have all the essentials to recreate her signature looks for yourself.
Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Rock Steady Lipstick is a creamy formula that’s just like Firebird though it’s 100% opaque in one pass. The color is a mix of colors actually. It’s a stunning deep red with a berry colored base. On me, it leans neutral to slightly warm in undertone. I wouldn’t really call it burgundy or oxblood or a berry like many others are calling it. It’s really a dark red with a berry undertone. For me, I’d wear it all year but I think it’s the perfect fall/winter/holiday type color. The thing that makes this insane and an HG is the wear time. I put it on at 10 am. 20 minutes later I had more hot coffee, then lunch, a snack, a ton of water, dinner with a glass of wine, dessert, and hot tea. At 10 pm when I went to take my makeup off my lips looked almost freshly applied everywhere except the very center and honestly it was barely noticeable because it was stained to high heaven. 12 hours of near flawless wear. My lunch was a little greasy so I checked after eating and there was just a hint of migration which I just wiped off with my finger. It didn’t stain my skin and went back to looking fine. Back to the 10 pm makeup removal, I decided to leave the lipstick as it was and see what happened. I went to bed about 12 am and got up at about 8 am. The lipstick looked blotted and settled into a full stain by breakfast. My lips were still stained when I went to bed the following night. I thought it was a fluke but I applied it the next day and it was still going strong at 11pm. This time, I removed it. It took coconut oil, Bioderma, and cleanser to get it all off. Luckily, I had no lip issues and it felt just as creamy and balm-like as Firebird. This isn’t a transfer proof lipstick, it got all over my drinking glasses, forks, and even left a smear on the slice of vegan cheesecake I only partly finished. For this reason alone, I’m not going to swatch it for you as I don’t want my hand stained for two days. I notice many lipsticks get longer wear time on me than other people but unless you are tissuing, napkining, and non-stop eating/drinking I can’t see this not lasting through a work day.
Rock Steady is aptly named. The wear time and wear comfort make this a home run for me. I’m delighted to have found such a formula with such pigmentation and fuss free wear time. I just wish they would make them permanent and add more colors to the range!
Product Rating: Holy Grail
Repurchase: If I can find it then yes!
Have you tried any of the UD X Gwen Stefani line? I’m starting to think I made a mistake passing on the palettes if the lipsticks are this good!
