I always love transition dressing, but I’m not going to lie, the trends I’m seeing at my favorite retailers seem a little daunting. Fall 2016 transition dressing is going to be a bit of juggling act because it seems we’re embracing 70’s and 90’s in the same season along with serious doses of florals, patterns, sheer fabrics, and wide woven textures. We’ve also re-embraced flared pants and skirts as well as off the shoulder or shoulder/arm cut outs. Whenever I buy things, I don’t want them to be one season only so I’m looking for chic “of the moment” transition pieces that can look good for several seasons.
I love the versatility of a sleeveless dress in a lightweight fabric. Perfect for now and later. Add layers as it gets colder. This comes in three patterns and plus sizes. For plus size, click here!
Another great layering dress in the perfect length!
Looking cool while keeping warm! I love how they styled it here, and I’d also throw it over sheer blouses and florals to keep it from being too “sweet”. I’m a habitual tank or shell wearer, so these kind of toppers are perfection to me!
This boot looks expensive but isn’t. Thier stacked heel boot is cute too; this one just looked like a more expensive shoe!
Looks like Missoni, priced like Anthro!
Quite possibly my favorite! Three trends in one dress!
Perfect for pattern phobics. I only wish it came in my size!
My favorite of the skirts, a perfect foil for patterns or bold jewelry! If it came in black, I’d already own three!
I had a quilted jacket someone gave me when I was 12. I had a love-hate relationship with it. This, however, is all love!
This wouldn’t last 5 minutes in my house because I’m actually just a recliner for pets, but I like it too.
Animal face tees used to be pretty hot, but they always looked trashy to me. This is quite the opposite!
Floral prints are huge this fall. This is wearable now with cut offs or paired with far more sophisticated office wear. Easy to layer in the cold!
Off the shoulder is also another huge trend! This has been a favorite choice. It’s romantic but sophisticated!
Chunky heels are back, but these look “modern” enough to still have appeal after the trend passes.
Another retro throwback that should be ok past the season.
I hope you found something that might make Fall 2016 transition dressing easier for you or to spice up your current rotation!
