I get a Bite set every year at the holidays, and their matte crayons are some of my favorite lip products. I’m a lip product junkie and for me to say that is high praise indeed. If you have never used their pencils, they are a bit more of satin matte, a matte with dimension. They condition and moisturize too, so if you have dry lips, you’re in luck.
Truffle is described as being a deep brown, but it’s straight up purple on me. Truffle is the most emollient in the set and therefore had the most glossy finish and gathered more into lip lines than the other formulas. It isn’t excessive or makes the product rate that much poorer as you can’t see it unless you are right in my face. This transfers the most out the group but it still wears well for a good 6 to 8 hours depending on your eating habits. It stains for the whole day and your lips feel great. I didn’t have any problem with feathering.
Red Velvet is described as a deep, dark red. It certainly is that! It’s got a touch of brown giving it a bit more of a burgundy vibe. It’s not too warm, but it’s warmer than it is neutral. This shade wore all day on me and looked great at 11 pm. I was surprised that it didn’t transfer much. The shade does wear down over time. It’s strong for about 8 hours and then looks a bit more like a stain. It’s pretty moisturizing. The finish starts off satin but sets into a more matte finish around two hours of wear, though it retains dimension. It looks a bit lighter in this picture in full sun.
Orchid seems a bit out of left field colorwise for the holidays. It’s a warm purple with a hint of a lavender cast. That lavender cast appears to leave as it sets up into more of a matte at about an hour of wear. It’s more pink after about an hour as well. I like the shade, but it’s the least moisturizing or forgiving to the lips. It doesn’t transfer much. It wore for a good 6 hours and left a bright pink stain that lasted all day.
I thought I had fraise, but I didn’t! Fraise is a warm strawberry red shade, and it’s the most matte from the get go. It’s still got a hint of dimension. This barely transfers and wears like iron. It stains the lips all day. It’s somewhat moisturizing too. It’s a perfect spring red. I got a good 8 hours of wear before it was more stain like.
I love this formula so much, and the shades are great. I like how it’s kind of a “now and later” theme with two winter shades and two more spring-like shades. The packaging is perfect as usual, and the price for the Best Bite Redux is a real bargain. If you don’t have these shades in your collection, it’s a must buy or the perfect gift for any beauty obsessive on your holiday list.
