What it is:
A limited-edition lip tint that delivers natural-looking color with one swipe.
What it does:
The limited-edition Lip Tint provides a perfect touch of natural-looking color with extremely comfortable wear. It has the shine of a gloss with the feel of a balm with coconut oil, vitamin C, and E to help hydrate and protect lips. Available in two just-bitten shades, it evokes Charlotte Gainsbourg’s effortless French beauty. Wear it alone, or paired with smoky eyes for subtle allure.
A true artistic collaboration from start to finish, the Charlotte Gainsbourg for NARS Collection presents her signature style through François Nars’ vision of beauty. The iconic chanteuse paints an intimate portrait of life as an actress, musician, and muse with a limited-edition lineup of personal pigment. Memories of London, music in Paris, and moments small and scintillating take shape as lived-in colors and tender textures for eyes, lips, cheeks, and face.
What else you need to know:
Inspired by Charlotte Gainsbourg’s intimate experience with makeup on set, the Summer 2017 collection presents a new look at personal style. Sensorial formulas and tinted innovations channel Charlotte’s signature look of smoldering eyes and fresh accents. Skin is as once perfected and natural-looking. Cheeks, flushed and tender, feel alive with emotion, while lips appear bitten with soft color. Like the artist herself, the collection personifies refined simplicity balanced with the edge of authenticity.
“She is an incredibly charming and giving person with an instinctive taste and style. I admire her for building a career with no compromise, no limits, and totally dedicating herself to it. Her work reflects her soul more than anybody I know.”—François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of NARS Cosmetics
Holy Hells, this has to be my favorite lip gloss of all times. I love the NARS Lip Velvets, and I might like these even better. If you can imagine a “summer” version of those, that’s exactly what you would have with the NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg Lip Tint! They have a more gel-like texture and offer about 1/2 the pigment, but they stain well and are just as moisturizing. They go on evenly providing hours of moisture and hours of stain, even after the glossiness fades. These feel like next to nothing, and your hair (or even more important, pet hair!) doesn’t get stuck in the gloss. Even right after applying it! This is the perfect poolside formula. You can reapply anytime without making a goopy mess, but you can leave it alone and still look great for hours. It wears well with food, drinks, and small peck like kisses once the shine has worn down. When it’s still glossy, there is a little more transfer. Because these are semi-opaque, it will pull your lip color through the shade.
The packaging is super chic; even the unit cartons are chic. The blackened military green and gold is so cool. The doe foot is a cross between their lipgloss and lip velvet shape, so pretty much perfect. If you have big lips, you’ll need to dip in two to three times.
There is no scent or taste other than perhaps the SLIGHTEST hint of coconut. It’s almost imperceptible.
Éphélide is an antique rose shade, but on me due to my cool toned lip shade, it looks more berry/fuschia in the undertone. It’s a great face brightening shade that seems summery and carefree but not bright on its own. It wears well, and this has become my day shade. I’ve worn it on all my gym or store runs cause it’s just that good. I probably need a backup.
Promise is a red plum shade that looks like a fall shade in the tube, but it’s opacity and color morph on the lips a little lighter than the tube. If you love a dramatic lip in the fall and struggle to find a summer version of the same look, this is it. It’s also perfect for people who aren’t comfortable with full on vamp but want to walk on the wild side a bit. I love it, and it’s become my going out shade. It wears so well through a meal. No clown mouth here. Even for sushi or soup! Once again, I will probably need a backup.
I don’t have Double Decker as Sephora isn’t carrying it, but I’ll probably try to order it from NARS directly. It’s a sheer red that’s dead neutral looking in the tube to my eye.
My only gripe is personal and not a thing many will notice; I have very low pigment on my lips edges on the sides of my bottom lip so if your lip pigment isn’t even all over you might think it looks a little blotchy. It’s not, there is no settling or gathering (Promise did slightly on a healing scab from biting myself), but there is no ability to overcolor a light area or overdraw. No matter how much you put on, it’s not buildable colorwise, so keep that in mind.
If you’re looking for something low maintenance and sexy for summer, NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg Lip Tint is perfect. I don’t like super sheer lip products, and while I love a coral lip in the summer, it’s nice to have some options on shades that still feel summery but have a broader spectrum of color. These are so moisturizing and lightweight; you can’t help but want to wear them pretty much 24/7. I hope NARS makes these permanent. I have a few other pieces of the collection to show you coming up, so stay tuned!
